I am so excited to be able to say that I was recently nominated for the Liebster Award, an award specifically for up and coming new beauty bloggers. Thank you so much to Jamie from Blackjam for nominating me. You’ve been a follower pretty much from the start of my blog, and I’m so happy to see you progressing on your own blog as well!
I am so grateful to have received my second award nomination within such a short period of time, so thank you so much to all of my wonderful followers and readers! (In fact, I may be rewarding all of you very soon with a giveaway…)
Liebster nominees are required to answer questions that are selected by the person who nominates them, so here are my responses to Jamie’s questions!
1. What is one thing in your closet that you can’t live without?
This is such a difficult question to answer, and I really struggled to pin down a single answer. (So I cheated and picked two.) My closet staples are solid colored v-neck tees and classic dark wash skinny jeans. They’re both so easy to wear, and pair well with almost anything.
2. Do you value fashion more? Or function?
I’m definitely someone who needs comfortable clothing to live. There is nothing worse than showing up to an event looking fabulous and spending the whole time itchy or uncomfortable. Still, I have my weak moments when it comes to less than practical footwear.
3. What is your favorite kind of blush?
Since I have drier skin, I love liquid cheek tints or cream blushes with a light, watery formula. They go on super easily, and blend in nicely. Plus, the finish is always natural and just a tad dewy, so it never looks cakey like some powder blushes do.
4. How do you start a Monday morning?
By being completely unwilling to get out of bed.
5. Why did you start blogging?
I’d been thinking about starting a blog for most of my senior year in high school, but after seeing two friends start their journeys as YouTubers, I quit making excuses and created Juleps and Tea. Despite being a total dork on paper, beauty and fashion have figured dominantly in my life, and I’m endlessly fascinated with the incredible variety and artistry incorporated into both worlds. Being a part of these industries, regardless of how small, is a dream come true.
6. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I went ahead and ignored the practical side of things and chose Greece. Despite its economic troubles, the coastal towns are beautifully quaint, and the views definitely can’t be beat. I haven’t, unfortunately, ever visited Greece, but the beautiful architecture of the seaside cities made a big impression on me as a kid. (Embarrassingly, these impressions were mostly from watching The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and Mamma Mia.)
7. Do you believe less is more or do you go for a more dramatic look?
My golden rule when it comes to beauty and fashion is always that “less is more”. Going with a simpler look means that your personality does the talking, not your outfit. While a standout outfit is fun every once in a while to break you out of your rut, a natural daytime look is my favorite way to go.
8. Whose closet would you love to steal?
If I could steal a celebrity’s closet, it’d probably be either Alexa Chung’s, or Sophia Bush’s. Both of them have classic, feminine styles, but with a little bit of a personal twist. Alexa Chung pulls off everything from distressed boyfriend jeans to frilly sundresses, but her style is always simplistic and clean. I love Sophia Bush’s modern take on classic pieces like cropped blazers and sheath dresses. She takes a timeless silhouette and switches it up with color-blocking or fun prints.
9. What beauty product have you repurchased the most?
This is, weirdly enough, a tie between my tooth paste and my daily moisturizer. I’m finishing up my third product for both, and already have a fourth for each stashed under my sink. You can see which moisturizer I’m loving in my Beginner’s Guide to Skincare.
10. What do you hope trends this year?
I hope all the of the boho summer pieces that were so big this year (like kimonos and chiffon maxi skirts) find a way to transition into the fall! I’m also watching for some new takes on the fit and flare silhouette that took over last spring and summer.
I hope that you’ve found my answers interesting, and thanks for reading! Check out all the blogs I’m nominating, and the questions they’ll be answering:
1. What are the most practical and least practical shoes you own?
2. Would you wear a vampy lip?
3. Which do you prefer: over-the-knee boots or ankle boots?
4. Favorite drugstore make-up brand?
5. Favorite high-end make-up brand?
6. If you had to skip one step in your skincare routine, which one would you skip?
7. Which Urban Decay Naked palette is your favorite? (In terms of shade selection)
8. One disappointing product you tried recently
9. What’s your favorite clothing store for bargain hunting?
10. Dresses or skirts?
