I’m not exactly a Directioner or a One Direction super-fan, but I’m often surprised by the quality of celebrity makeup or fragrances, so I decided to give this new collection a shot. One Direction recently released three limited edition tins, each containing the products from their new line in different color selections. Keep reading and see what I thought!
The tin is really solid and sturdy, and the 1D sleeve can be taken off so the tin can be reused for whatever else you want to keep in it. All of the products are packaged well inside the tin, and I was pleased to find that they weren’t plastered with 1D logos and prints. Instead, all of the pieces follow a matte black theme for packaging, making the products all nicely low-profile. Here’s a photo of the open tin and its contents:
Pricing and Value: 8/10
Each tin retails for $28.50 at Macy’s (purchase here) but you definitely get a lot of product for what you pay. Each tin comes with an eyeshadow quad, a chubby eye pencil, a black mascara, a lipstick, a lip gloss, a nail polish, and a packet of stencils. I actually expected the sets to cost much more, so this makes a great, reasonably priced gift option if you have a friend or family member that is a 1D fan.
Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the products. While the lip gloss isn’t a very wearable shade, I think the eye products are excellent staple products to own. The eyeshadows were really soft and buttery in the pan, and very pigmented. Two of the shades are nice mattes (although the light nude shade has a little bit of a satin finish) and the other two are glitter colors. The pale pink glitter swatched really nicely, but I was initially really disappointed with the gritty feel of the gold shade. But if you use a damp finger or brush, it actually turns into a gold foil, which is an awesome effect for a dramatic eye look, or just along the lashline for a pop of shine and color. Check out some swatches below:
My other favorite from the collection was the chubby eye pencil. The formulation was really soft and creamy, and it was super pigmented. I actually found the formula really reminiscent of the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils, which I absolutely love. I think it’ll make a great chocolate-colored eyeshadow base for a smoky eye look.
The nail polish is a pretty standard clear glitter, but I think the kaleidoscopic effect will be really pretty layered over another shade of nail polish.
I actually received the awesome opportunity to try out the 1D Makeup Collection prior to its launch in the U.S., but the collection is now in stores. It’s available for purchase at Macy’s, Dillard’s, and other stores in the U.S., and will be released worldwide very soon.
Final Verdict: 8/10
I think this collection has some great staple products in it, although the shade selections could be slightly improved. The orange lip gloss in this tin is not something I’m going to end up using, but overall the quality of the eye products mostly makes up for that. Since they’re limited edition, I would definitely suggest checking the tins out in stores before they’re gone! Find more info about the cosmetics line and the band here.
